Kromìa è lieta di presentare Paradiso Doppioesposto, personale dell’artista e fotografo Majid Modir (Iran, 1961).
In mostra, opere dalla recente produzione dell’autore. Sperimentando attraverso la sovrapposizione di fotografie diverse le possibilità del medium, l’autore ottiene immagini visionarie e ammalianti, che con libere assonanze e risonanze spalancano nuove possibilità di significato su volti, luoghi e oggetti catturati.
Come nelle parole dell’autore, «L’idea dietro queste immagini è la ricerca del Paradiso promesso, quella ‘bellezza’ che credo non sia necessariamente lontana da noi o addirittura in un’altra vita, ma semplicemente esiste qui e ora, fuori dalla nostra finestra o dietro l’angolo. Credo che abbiamo solo bisogno di rimanere in ascolto e respirare, chiudere i nostri occhi e dare forma a ‘strati di impressioni’ dentro di noi».
Dal testo critico di Diana Gianquitto (curatrice della mostra, con la direzione artistica di Donatella Saccani): «Luce e aria. Respirarle profondamente, per farle scendere dagli occhi nei polmoni. Questo, ciò che sente il corpo innanzi alle libere visioni doppie di Majid Modir. (…) Qualcosa che va oltre il senso del surreale di André Breton, come realtà superiore in cui conciliare veglia e sogno, e anche oltre il significato contemporaneo di augmented reality, dimensione virtuale che partecipa e del mondo naturale, dal quale scaturisce, e di quello digitale, nel quale avverare eventi ed esperienze oltre i limiti corporei umani. (…) L’arte di Modir è over-reality: una realtà al di sopra dell’altra, due immagini entrambe reali che però sono sovrapposte dando vita a una terza visione. (…) L’over-realtà di Modir è (…) unico spazio di visione in cui esprimere con doppia immagine e duplice profondità il mondo, sulla pelle prensile stavolta delle proprie percezioni allargate. Non nell’onirico, o nel surreale, ma nella contemplazione. (…) Una terza superiore visione da due immagini, dal terzo occhio dell’arte».

Kromìa is proud to present Paradiso Doppioesposto, solo show by the artist and photographer Majid Modir (Iran, 1961).
On display, recent works by the author. Overlapping different photographs, the artist researches the several chances offered by the medium, obtaining visionary and tantalizing images that, thanking to free consonances and inner resonances, open new meanings wide on the shot elements.
As for the author, «My very first photo experience became a fiasco when the instamatic camera that I had received as a birthday gift seemed to be badly manufactured! It was simply not possible to turn the film roll forward and all of the 12 images were stuck on each other. I was 12 years old and already then – despite everyone’s mocking – I found that the trashy, dark and gooey photos had with no doubt something interesting to offer. The following experiments and eventually controlling the overlap has continued since then, and even today I’m still fascinated by the mystique in pictures which wear several layers of information and form a multifaceted but cohesive composition. The technology has been developed over the years but enigmatic persists. This collection is a late part of my long photographic journey in the past 30 years. None of these are manipulated or cut and pasted, they are simply 2 or 3 photographs which overlap outright. With care! The idea behind these images is a quest for the promised paradise. The beauty which I think to is not necessarily far away or in another life, but simply exists here and now, outside the window or around the corner. We only need to stay a little while, to see around and inhale, close our eyes and form layers of impressions within us».
From the critical text by Diana Gianquitto (curator of the exhibition, under artistic direction by Donatella Saccani): «Light, and air. Inhaling them deeply, making the perception of them descend, from eyes to lungs. That’s what your body feels, in front of the double visions by Majid Modir. Something different from the surreal of Andrè Breton – dream plus reality – and also from the nowadays augmented reality – nature plus digital. (…) The art by Modir is over-reality: one reality over another one, two real images giving birth to a third one. (…) Over-reality by Modir is one and only space a timeless lapse of vision (…), expressing the world in double image and double profoundness, felt by the osmotic skin – this time – of one’s own broadened perceptions. Broadened not by dreaming, not by virtuality, but by contemplating. (…) A third and superior over-reality, seen by the third eye of the art».
